Campsite's History
An authentic and welcoming holiday destination
Since its creation in the 60s, Camping Le Pré Catalan has been much more than just a holiday destination: it's a story of passion, family and conviviality. Nestling in the heart of an exceptional natural setting, over the years it has become a must for lovers of the sea, sun and relaxation. Here's a look back at the history of this campsite, which has evolved while remaining true to its authentic soul.
Pré Catalan 60-70's
The beginnings: an ambitious project
The history of Camping Le Pré Catalan began in the 1960s with a simple but bold idea: to create a place where holidaymakers could meet up in pleasant surroundings, far from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. From the outset, the emphasis was on friendliness and the well-being of visitors. With just a few pitches and basic facilities, the campsite quickly made a name for itself thanks to its warm welcome and unspoilt setting.
In 1981, Josette and André Galidie took over the campsite with the ambition of developing it while preserving its family atmosphere. Driven by a genuine love of tourism and hospitality, they worked tirelessly to transform the site into a welcoming, modern venue, while preserving its authenticity and natural character.
As early as 1983, they set about adding the facilities that would become emblematic of the campsite, including the restaurant and Froggy's Bar, offering holidaymakers an additional space for conviviality and relaxation. These new facilities enabled holidaymakers to share unique moments with family and friends, while enjoying the local gastronomy.
In 1987, in response to growing demand and success, the campsite was extended for the first time. This extension increased the campsite's capacity and improved its infrastructure, making it even more attractive to a growing number of visitors.
Constantly evolving to meet holidaymakers' expectations
Over the decades, the campsite has evolved to adapt to trends in outdoor tourism. Improving the infrastructure is a priority: in 1989, a modern reception was built, making it easier to welcome and inform holidaymakers. With this centralised space, the campsite reinforced its professionalism and improved the customer experience from the moment they arrived.
In 1990, an important turning point came with the handover of the campsite to François and Jenny Galidie. Full of enthusiasm and new ideas, they continued to develop the campsite by modernising the infrastructure and improving services. Under their management, the campsite gradually acquired new facilities and diversified its range of accommodation.
In 1998, the campsite was upgraded to a 4-star rating, reflecting its ongoing efforts to offer an ever more pleasant environment and high-quality services. This recognition marked a key stage in the history of the campsite, which became a destination of choice for holidaymakers in search of comfort and nature.
Faced with growing demand and the new expectations of holidaymakers, a second extension was carried out in 2001. This new expansion made it possible to optimise the layout of the site and welcome more visitors in optimum conditions.
In 2004, Camping Le Pré Catalan joined the Yelloh! Village franchise. This partnership marked a major strategic move, giving the campsite greater visibility and integrating its services into a recognised network of top-of-the-range campsites. Thanks to this affiliation, holidaymakers will benefit from an ever more qualitative and diversified offer, meeting the demanding standards of the brand.
The infrastructure continues to be modernised with the reconstruction of the swimming pool in 2009, adding a new dimension to the campsite's aquatic area. Then, in 2015, water slides were added, delighting children and thrill-seekers alike. These facilities help to make the campsite a real place of leisure and relaxation for all the family.
The purchase of extensions, the date of which has yet to be confirmed, is part of this drive to offer visitors even more space and comfort. These future projects will enable us to expand our offer even further and ensure the harmonious development of the site.
In 2024, a new milestone was reached with the upgrading of the campsite to 5-star status. This prestigious classification is the reward for years of investment, improvement and passion for offering holidaymakers an exceptional holiday environment. Camping Le Pré Catalan is now one of the most upmarket campsites, while retaining the warm, family atmosphere for which it is renowned.

A commitment to the environment and the customer experience
Le Pré Catalan not only offers an idyllic setting: it also takes a responsible approach. The team makes it a point of honour to preserve the surrounding natural environment by integrating eco-responsible practices into its operations. Waste management is optimised, measures are taken to save water, and holidaymakers are made aware of the importance of respecting the environment.
In addition, the relationship with holidaymakers remains a priority. Thanks to modern facilities, a warm welcome and a wide range of services, the campsite receives excellent feedback from its visitors. Many families return year after year, loving the unique atmosphere that prevails at the campsite. This loyalty testifies to the constant commitment of the entire team to offering memorable stays and quality service to every holidaymaker, whether they're staying with family, friends or as a couple.
Between tradition and modernity, every year the campsite writes a new page in its history with its holidaymakers.
